{"id":1138,"date":"2016-07-18T11:00:23","date_gmt":"2016-07-18T16:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/downtown\/?post_type=post&#038;p=1138"},"modified":"2025-03-17T14:10:00","modified_gmt":"2025-03-17T14:10:00","slug":"ucf-selects-finalists-downtown-parking-garage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/downtown\/ucf-selects-finalists-downtown-parking-garage\/","title":{"rendered":"Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Selects Finalists for Downtown Parking Garage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ today released its short list of companies vying to construct the parking garage in downtown Orlando that will be part of Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\u2019s new campus there.<\/p>\n<p>The five teams, which include construction managers and architects, are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PCL Construction Services and Walker Parking Consultants<\/li>\n<li>The Beck Group and NBBJ<\/li>\n<li>Clancy &amp; Theys and HuntonBrady Architects<\/li>\n<li>The Haskel Company<\/li>\n<li>Collage and PGAL<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each team will present its plans and interview with the university\u2019s selection committee next month, with a decision expected in September.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The new garage will create about 600 parking spaces with enhanced security features and technology that makes finding an open spot easier.<\/p>\n<p>The parking garage will complement a new academic building and the renovation of the existing Center for Emerging Media.<\/p>\n<p>In late June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/downtown\/ucf-picks-team-design-build-downtown-campus\/\" target=\"_blank\">Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ selected a three-way partnership of experienced architects and construction firms<\/a> to design and build the downtown campus. A team made up of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.schenkelshultz.com\/\">SchenkelShultz Architecture<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ramsa.com\/\">Robert A.M. Stern Architects<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usa.skanska.com\/\">Skanska USA Building, Inc.<\/a> was selected based on their experience, creativity and design ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Taken together, the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Downtown facilities will bring 7,700 Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ and Valencia College students to downtown Orlando, offering students an innovative learning environment within walking distance of a wide array of internship and job opportunities in fields such as communication, digital media, public service and health-related programs.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Valencia will offer programs in digital media, health-information technology, and culinary and hospitality, including workforce training and other certificates to increase access to education in the immediate downtown area.<\/p>\n<p>Already, the community has helped raise about $17 million toward the construction of the $60 million new academic building. Another $3 million is expected to be raised and announced in the coming weeks.
