{"id":5794,"date":"2019-10-01T14:40:53","date_gmt":"2019-10-01T18:40:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/financial-aid\/?page_id=5794"},"modified":"2025-01-08T14:47:26","modified_gmt":"2025-01-08T19:47:26","slug":"satisfactory-academic-progress","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/financial-aid\/policies\/satisfactory-academic-progress\/","title":{"rendered":"Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is the set of academic standards that all students must be meeting in order to qualify for Title IV financial aid.\u00a0SAP is required for Title IV aid eligibility regardless of whether the student has previously received Title IV aid.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SAP reviews the student\u2019s entire academic history which includes the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Credit Hours<\/li>\n<li>Dual Enrollment<\/li>\n<li>Transfer Credit Hours<\/li>\n<li>Transient Credit Hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mb-4\"><strong>A student\u2019s SAP status is evaluated every semester<\/strong> to include newly earned grades into their status. If a student is no longer meeting all SAP standards, they will receive notification to their Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ email account regarding the change in status and how the change will impact their aid eligibility for their next term of enrollment.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mt-5 mb-4\">Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"section-list icon-list icon-list-lg icon-list-custom\"><li class=\"icon-list-item\">\n\t\t<span class=\"icon-list-bullet icon-list-bullet-fonticon fa fa-check-circle-o text-primary\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span>\n\t\n\t<h2 class=\"icon-list-item-heading\" id=\"grade-point-average-gpa-requirements\">Grade Point Average (GPA) Requirements<\/h2><div class=\"icon-list-item-content\"><p>Undergraduate: Minimum 2.0 (cumulative GPA)<br \/>\nGraduate: Minimum 3.0 (cumulative GPA)<\/p>\n<\/div><\/li><li class=\"icon-list-item\">\n\t\t<span class=\"icon-list-bullet icon-list-bullet-fonticon fa fa-list-ol text-primary\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span>\n\t\n\t<h2 class=\"icon-list-item-heading\" id=\"completion-ratio\">Completion Ratio<\/h2><div class=\"icon-list-item-content\"><p>Students must earn a successful grade in at least 70%* of all attempted credit hours in the student\u2019s entire academic history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-danger text-danger-aw\"><strong>Effective fall 2021, students must have a 67% completion ratio to meet this SAP standard. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What qualifies as a successful grade for financial aid may differ from what the college of the major considers acceptable.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Successful completion for financial aid is defined as earning a grade of A, B, C, D or S.<\/li>\n<li>Unsuccessful completion for financial aid is defined as earning a grade of F, W, NC, I, U, X, N, WM, WP, WF, WH or IP.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mt-4\">Repeated coursework and grade forgiveness may both negatively impact your completion ratio. All attempts will be considered towards your ratio calculation, but only one successful completion will be considered.<\/p>\n<p>Transient grades and late grade changes could also impact your completion ratio. We will determine completion ratio once a semester. Any requests to update the ratio due to grades posting after our initial determination must be made via the appeal process.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/financial-aid\/document\/how-to-calculate-your-completion-ratio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Access instructions on how to calculate your completion ratio.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Test credits (AP, IB, AICE, etc) are not automatically included in determination of your completion ratio. These credits will show as grades of \u201cS\u201d with the code \u201cTE\u201d on your degree audit, so a student\u2019s calculation of ratio may differ from ours. Test credits can be taken into consideration via the appeal process.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/catalog\/undergraduate\/#\/policy\/HkTMRAv9_?bc=true&amp;bcCurrent=Grade%20System&amp;bcGroup=Academic%20Regulations%20and%20Procedures&amp;bcItemType=policies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">View Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½&#8217;s Grade Legend<\/a><\/p>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"alert alert-info\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t\n<p class=\"small\">*A rounding methodology is used when calculating the student\u2019s ratio.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div><\/li><li class=\"icon-list-item\">\n\t\t<span class=\"icon-list-bullet icon-list-bullet-fonticon fa fa-clock-o text-primary\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span>\n\t\n\t<h2 class=\"icon-list-item-heading\" id=\"maximum-time-frame\">Maximum Time Frame<\/h2><div class=\"icon-list-item-content\"><p>Students must graduate within 150% of the credit hours required for completion of their degree program.<\/p>\n<p>Students who reach their attempted hours limit will be placed on a cancellation status, effective the next term enrolled.<\/p>\n<p>Students may not receive Title IV financial aid for courses that do not count toward program completion. This includes graduate students who should be enrolled in graduate courses only, unless the undergraduate courses have been required as prerequisites or have been approved by the department.<\/p>\n<p>Graduate students must complete their degree within the attempted Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ hours limit assigned by this policy.<\/p>\n<p>Students are required to graduate within the number of hours allowed by the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy.<\/p>\n<p>Students are allowed a specific number of attempted hours, based on their classification. This includes all transfer hours plus all Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ hours. When considering additional programs students are advised to determine whether they will be able to complete all programs prior to reaching Maximum Time Frame.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"h6\">Students seeking a second master\u2019s degree<\/h4>\n<p>Maximum Time Frame for students seeking multiple master\u2019s is 70 total credit hours attempted at Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ including all Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ coursework attempted while classified as a graduate student.
