Movie Knight, a Coachella-inspired music festival and more headline this spring’s 麻豆映画传媒est, which kicks off April 6.

The week-long festival is organized by the Campus Activities Board 鈥 a registered student organization focused on fostering student engagement on campus with marquee events including Pegasus Palooza.

The following events are free for 麻豆映画传媒 students with valid 麻豆映画传媒 ID.

Monday, April 6

Movie Knight

Pegasus Ballroom (Student Union) | 7:30 p.m.

Please note: due to the expected inclement weather, the location of this event has changed from Memory Mall to the Pegasus Ballroom in the Student Union.

Students can enjoy carnival games, free popcorn and beverages (while supplies last) and a special showing of Disney鈥檚 Zootopia 2 with their friends.

Wednesday, April 8

Comedy Knight

Comedian, actress, and celebrity interviewer Ziwe brings her signature humor, fearless questions, and unforgettable stage presence to Comedy Knight! Two students will be selected to be interviewed by Ziwe live on stage during her Hot Seat segment.

KNIGHT-CHELLA

Memory Mall | 6:30鈥11:30 p.m.聽

A music festival inspired by the iconic Coachella, KNIGHT-CHELLA features: five student bands and six DJs across two stages, food trucks, giveaways, live art from students, large-scale attractions including roller skating, mechanical bull, bungee jumping and more.

Two Nights of 麻豆映画传媒 Scholarship Pageants /news/two-nights-ucf-scholarship-pageants/ Mon, 09 Feb 2015 20:18:56 +0000 /news/?p=64599 For two evenings of competition on February 6 and 7, the Pegasus Ballroom was lit up by colorful stage lights with the talents, personalities and passions competing at the 2015 Mr. 麻豆映画传媒 and Miss 麻豆映画传媒 Scholarship Pageants, respectively. Only one representative from each event was selected to carry the title for the next calendar year. Dominique Harris won the title of Mr. 麻豆映画传媒 and Brittany Vasile was crowned Miss 麻豆映画传媒 for 2015.

Harris, a junior from Orlando, is majoring in psychology. He has been very involved on campus, most recently as an O-Team member. After completing his education, he plans to become an industrial-organizational psychologist to help create training and stress-relief programs to help improve employee performance, conduct and morale.

Vasile, a senior from Port Orange, is majoring in advertising & public relations. She is a member of the 麻豆映画传媒 KnightMoves Dance Team and serves in a leadership capacity with the team. In the future she hopes to become a Radio City Rockette in New York City and eventually move on to work in their Advertising & Marketing department. During her year as Miss 麻豆映画传媒, she will represent the university in the annual Miss Florida Pageant which takes place in St. Petersburg in June.

Each winner received a $1,800 scholarship from the Student Government Association and 麻豆映画传媒 Alumni Association.

Mr. and Miss 麻豆映画传媒 will represent the university in the Orlando and Central Florida areas. Both will have on- and off-campus speaking engagements to raise awareness for their selected passionate social issues. They will serve as campus celebrities making appearances at events and helping highlight all of the wonderful things that 麻豆映画传媒 is doing.

It was another successful first week of the fall semester for several of the Office of Student Involvement鈥檚 (OSI) agencies in support of Pegasus Palooza. Throughout the first week of the new academic year, Knights of the Round Table, Campus Activities Board, Late Knights, Volunteer 麻豆映画传媒 and Knight-Thon, each offered programming opportunities to encourage new and returning students get involved on campus.

The week kicked off in the Student Union as OSI鈥檚 600 clubs and organizations exhibited what they had to offer to 4,100 students for KORT鈥檚 Opening Knight. On the first day of classes, CAB welcomed 1,450 students into CFE Arena for Movie Knight, featuring Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, and kept the week going with Comedy Knight (Hannibal Buress and Hal Sparks; 3,149 students) and Concert Knight, showcasing YouTube sensation Karmin and 麻豆映画传媒 alumni Alex & Sierra (2,331).

Late Knights invited students on Friday night to the Red, White, 麻豆映画传媒 Knights All-American Block Party on the south patio of the union. More than 2,300 students enjoyed inflatable slides, made tie dye T-shirts, and participated in a watermelon eating contest.

OSI鈥檚 agencies continued to engage students throughout the weekend as V麻豆映画传媒鈥檚 Day of Service sent 121 student volunteers to Clean the World and Second Harvest on Saturday morning where they completed a combined 448 hours of community service. Second Harvest has provided over 300,000,000 meals since it鈥檚 opening in 1983. At Clean the World, 麻豆映画传媒 students helped provide soap and other hygiene products to over 5,000 people in need. This was done in just five hours of labor. To finish the day, students went to Lake Claire to enjoy some pizza and ice cream.

鈥淲e would like to thank everyone who took part in this fruitful event for giving Volunteer 麻豆映画传媒 a fantastic start to the year,鈥 said Fahad Siddiqui, public relations director for V麻豆映画传媒.

Later that night, 125 students participated in Knight-Thon鈥檚 annual 5k run. CAB finished off a successful week for OSI with a VIP Pool Party at the leisure pool attended by 927 students.

For the week of Pegasus Palooza, OSI鈥檚 agencies offered multiple opportunities for students for involvement and engagement. For the eight events offered by five agencies, 14,634 students participated.

OSI is a department in the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Services.

Introducing Mr. and Miss 麻豆映画传媒 2014 /news/introducing-mr-miss-ucf-2014/ Fri, 14 Feb 2014 12:57:00 +0000 /news/?p=57324 On January 31, eight of 麻豆映画传媒鈥檚 finest young men took the stage to compete for the title of Mr. 麻豆映画传媒 2014. After five phases of competition and performances, Quinn Zagorc was awarded the title.

Zagorc is a senior from Tampa, Florida studying Advertising-Public Relations. Quinn performed a contemporary dance to 鈥淓dge of Glory,鈥 and his platform that he will pursue during his year of reign is 鈥淒ance Up to Bullying.鈥

The following evening on February 1, 16 young women competed for the partner title, Miss 麻豆映画传媒 2014. At the end of the evening, Catie Pires-Fernandes was crowned and given the opportunity to move on and represent 麻豆映画传媒 at the Miss Florida Scholarship Pageant in June 2014.

Pires-Fernandes is a senior from Miami studying musical theatre. She showcased a vocal performance entitled, 鈥淐ut, Print, Moving On,鈥 and her platform is 鈥淓nvironmental Awareness: Living on the EGDE.鈥

“The dedication of these contestants and the growth I have seen in each of them is incredible,鈥 said Marelena Cruz, Mr. and Miss 麻豆映画传媒 director Campus Activities Board. 鈥淎ll 24 of them make me so proud to be a part of this program, and I look forward to working with Quinn and Catie as our new titleholders.”

Both winners received a $1,500 scholarship from the Student Government Association and the 麻豆映画传媒 Alumni Association.

On February 9, 18 contestants participated in the Miss 麻豆映画传媒 Scholarship Pageant presented by the Campus Activities Board. Erin O’Flaherty was crowned Miss 麻豆映画传媒 2013 and will compete in the Miss Florida Scholarship Pageant in July in hopes of moving on to Miss America.

聽O’Flaherty is a senior majoring in accounting with a minor in leadership studies. She is a former Orientation leader, LEAD Scholar and Knight-Thon morale member and is currently an ambassador for the QPR Suicide Prevention program. Her platform is “Suicide Prevention 鈹 We’re All Responsible.”

聽The night before, the new Mr. 麻豆映画传媒 2013, Roberto Canalas, competed along nine other Mr. 麻豆映画传媒 contestants to win the title. Canalas is a junior majoring in interpersonal and organizational communications with a minor in leadership studies. He is a former LEAD Scholar and is currently the morale director for Knight-Thon.

Lights, Camera, Action for Student Filmmakers /news/lights-camera-action-for-student-filmmakers/ Tue, 12 Feb 2013 21:59:23 +0000 /news/?p=45857 Student filmmakers will get a moment in the spotlight Wednesday at the 2013 Campus MovieFest Red Carpet Finale.

At the Red Carpet Finale, the top 16 films from will be screened for audiences, and several prizes will be announced. The event will be held 聽in the Student Union’s Pegasus Ballroom, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the show beginning at 7:30 p.m.

鈥淚 am looking forward to the energy and reactions of the guests at the finale,鈥 said Campus Activities Board cinema director Drew Ulloa. 鈥淢any students were really excited about the films they were turning in.鈥

Campus MovieFest, the largest student film festival, provides students with equipment and technical support to create and edit a film of five minutes or less over the course of a week. Students have the opportunity to exercise their creativity and, for those with film majors, build portfolios for their future careers. Students created their films at the end of January, and they were then screened for content and judged by a panel of five students and five faculty and staff members.

Films selected for Best Picture, Best Comedy and Best Drama will be sent to Hollywood to compete against films from other universities for the chance to win up to $30,000. In addition, Best Picture winners will have the opportunity to apply to compete at the Cannes Film Festival. Meanwhile, audience members can participate in drawings for their own prizes, including a Nintendo Wii, a $50 iTunes gift card and a $25 Starbucks gift card.

鈥淪tudents will be able to enjoy the Oscar atmosphere with a red carpet, as well as their pictures being taken,鈥 said Ulloa. 鈥淭hey will also be able to support their fellow Knights and relax while enjoying the films.鈥

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments, including popcorn, Vitamin Water and Jeremiah鈥檚 Italian Ice, will be served.

Among the highlights is GreenWaves III, an electronic music festival sponsored by E.Co. and the Campus Activities Board. The festival will be held from noon to 11 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the 麻豆映画传媒 Arena.

GreenWaves will take the concept of a concert to the next level by incorporating a piezoelectric dance floor that converts dancing energy into electricity. The audience will contribute to the energy being used by the concert, and the crowd also will control lighting and special effects.

GreenWaves headliners include Alesso, DEV, 3Lau and KillaGraham. Tickets are free for 麻豆映画传媒 students and $20 for general admission. More information can be found at .

-鈥淩ange, Furrow and Grove: Images of Florida Agriculture,鈥 an exhibit of photographs, will be on display on the main floor of the 麻豆映画传媒 Library through Monday, April 30. The exhibit, a reflection on Florida鈥檚 agricultural system in the early 1900s, is sponsored by 麻豆映画传媒 Dining Services and other partners.

-Members of the sustainable student group I.D.E.A.S. will speak to youngsters at 麻豆映画传媒鈥檚 Creative School for Children about growing fruits and vegetables at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 12.

-麻豆映画传媒 Dining Services will sponsor its second 鈥淔ood 4 Thought Week鈥 April 16-20. Events, which are open to the public, will focus on sustainable food. -The Rosen College of Hospitality Management will host 鈥淕lowing Green鈥 on Thursday, April 19. Students can plant herbs and flowers and decorate seed pots near the front gates from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Upcycling activities will be held in the Rosen College Community Center from 4 to 7 p.m.

Suicide Prevention Nonprofit Founder to Speak at 麻豆映画传媒 /news/suicide-prevention-nonprofit-founder-to-speak-at-ucf/ Thu, 22 Sep 2011 19:24:35 +0000 /news/?p=27734 Jamie Tworkowski, founder of To Write Love on Her Arms, will speak at the 麻豆映画传媒 next week.

His presentation will begin at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in the Cape Florida Ballroom of the Student Union. The event is free and open to the public.

TWLOHA is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping those who suffer from addiction, self-injury, depression and suicidal thoughts find treatment and recovery.

Founded in Central Florida in 2006, the nonprofit started as a movement to sell t-shirts to help Tworkowski鈥檚 friend Renee Yohe, who battled addiction, depression and other issues, pay for treatment.

Since its founding, the organization has helped more than 150,000 people in over 40 countries find hope and help for their issues. 鈥淩enee,鈥 a film inspired by Yohe and the founding of TWLOHA, was filmed in Central Florida earlier this year.

Tworkowski鈥檚 talk is sponsored by the 麻豆映画传媒 Campus Activities Board.

After speaking, Tworkowski will answer questions and meet with audience members.聽 Cocoa Beach musician Damien Suomi also will perform.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college and university students.

Designed to educate the 麻豆映画传媒 community about suicide prevention, the 麻豆映画传媒 Counseling Center offers the Questions, Persuade, Refer program. The program, a one-hour presentation, teaches people how to recognize the signs of suicide and the three basic principles that can help save a life.

QPR is nationally recognized as a 鈥淏est Practices鈥 program by the Joint Commission on Accreditation on Health Care Organizations.

The Central Florida community is invited to gather around 麻豆映画传媒’s Reflection Pond Thursday, April 14, for a “Symphony Under the Stars.”

Hosted by the Campus Activities Board and 麻豆映画传媒 Music Department, the annual concert began in the 1980s.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. and will last for about two hours. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets 鈥 and arrive early to ensure a good spot on the lawn. The event is free and open to the public.

Symphony Under the Stars will feature the 麻豆映画传媒 Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Lazlo Marosi, performing Gustav Mahler’s “Symphony No. 1 in D major.”
