麻豆映画传媒 101: How to Find Parking, Your Classes — and Fun /news/ucf-101-find-parking-classes-fun/ Sun, 21 Aug 2016 12:00:47 +0000 /news/?p=73695 Confused and anxious about your first week of college?

Fear not, new Knights: Here are handy tips that will have you navigating campus like a pro, from finding your class on the first day, to knowing which garage always has a spot, to checking your grades with an app.

Parking

Parking can be tough during the first two weeks of the semester, when new students are still learning where they鈥檙e going. It helps if you get used to the fact that 麻豆映画传媒 is a big university with lots of buildings. It鈥檚 not a convenience store; you shouldn鈥檛 expect to park 10 feet from the front door of your first class.

Knowing your way around will make it easier. Consider parking in or , which nearly always have space available. Or try , a Park and Ride lot at the softball stadium across from Bright House Networks Stadium (you鈥檒l still need a campus parking permit for this lot). A Park and Ride shuttle runs continuously between Lot E4 and the shuttle stop near the Health and Public Affairs buildings, with pickups every 15 minutes.

Don鈥檛 forget: To park on campus, you need a .

麻豆映画传媒 App

If you haven鈥檛 already, download the newly redesigned 麻豆映画传媒 Mobile app for or on your smartphone. Launch the app and you鈥檒l find a treasure trove of information that will put you two steps ahead. Within the app, tap the 鈥淢aps鈥 icon to find any building on campus and walking directions on how to get there. Or tap the 鈥淪huttles鈥 icon to find the exact location of the shuttle you鈥檙e waiting for via GPS tracking. Or tap the 鈥淲ebcourses鈥 icon to check your grades. Or 鈥淐alendar鈥 to find out about upcoming concerts, career fairs and more.

Navigating Campus

The first two days of the fall semester, you can find helpful people at key spots around campus. These Campus Locator tents will be staffed by 麻豆映画传媒 employees and student leaders who can answer questions, provide directions and give you a map. Look for them on the sidewalk by Garage I and the Education Building;聽Memory Mall by the Veterans Commemorative Site; the side of the Reflecting Pond closest to Howard Phillips Hall; and the courtyard north of Ferrell Commons, near the Mathematical Sciences Building.

Fun for New Knights

Convocation: The Knighting is the official university welcome for new, first-year and transfer students alike. Held the Sunday before fall classes begin, President John C. Hitt and other administrators join current students, Knightro and others at this exciting and motivational event to kick off your academic journey. This year, will be featured as we celebrate its 15th anniversary.

As 麻豆映画传媒’s official welcome week, Pegasus Palooza returns with a week full of social, academic and service activities for students to become acquainted with the 麻豆映画传媒 campus, meet people and simply have fun.聽Check out the full schedule of events at .

麻豆映画传媒 Students Start New Year /news/ucf-students-start-new-year/ Thu, 21 Aug 2014 14:20:37 +0000 /news/?p=60834 The 麻豆映画传媒 keeps attracting brighter and brighter students. Preliminary data indicates that this year鈥檚 freshman class, which begins classes today, posts some impressive credentials.

This fall鈥檚 class is expected to have an average high school Grade Point Average of 3.9 compared to 3.8 last fall. The average SAT score is expected to be 1,255, up from 1,248. There are also 79 National Merit Scholars in the class 鈥 a record for the university. Last year 61 National Merit Scholars enrolled at 麻豆映画传媒.

The university expects to be home to an estimated 60,000 students this year. To help these students succeed, the university is embarking on several new initiatives to help students on their journey toward graduation and beyond.

From new partnerships aimed at helping find good models for increasing students success, to using new tools to help 麻豆映画传媒 students — including transfer students — graduate and thrive, 麻豆映画传媒 is on the move in 2014-15.

麻豆映画传媒 is working with Civitas Learning to use predictive analytics to help increase student success. Predictive analytics allows educators to compare a single student鈥檚 behavior to that of a large set of students. By so doing, 麻豆映画传媒 can predict the chances of success for that student. At the same time, 麻豆映画传媒 will be able to help connect students who may be struggling with the resources to turn their story around. A pilot program is being developed and launched aimed at first-generation students this fall.

麻豆映画传媒 is also partnering with the John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education to implement an action program to address transfer-student success, which will address everything from identifying transfer-student specific challenges to creating a better culture at the university to accommodate transfer students.

And 麻豆映画传媒 is doing more to educate its students on what it takes to graduate. An educational program is launching this fall aimed at informing students that they need to complete 30 credit hours each year if they want to graduate in four years. The education program also encourages students to meet with their advisors.

鈥淲e want students to get involved and participate on campus,鈥 said Delaine Priest, associate vice president of student development and enrollment services. 鈥淏ut they also need to make use of the resources available to them so they can plan ahead. Advisors are one of the best resources students have. I鈥檇 say make them your best friend.鈥
