]]>
The 麻豆映画传媒 Foundation had its best fundraising year on record with more than $141 million in gifts and commitments received during fiscal year 2019, which ended June 30. This also was the final year of IGNITE: The Campaign for 麻豆映画传媒, which had an historic goal of raising $500 million over eight years. The campaign total will be announced publicly at a celebratory event Oct. 18.

鈥淥ur alumni and friends have made this success possible,鈥 says Michael Morsberger, CEO of the 麻豆映画传媒 Foundation. 鈥淭here is an excitement, an energy here at 麻豆映画传媒 that ignites people鈥檚 interest and support of this great university. As for the campaign total, I can say it is not a question of if we reached our goal, but rather by how much we surpassed it.鈥

The significant and steady growth of fundraising activity has caught the attention of others. In June, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), an international professional organization, announced 麻豆映画传媒 was one of 90 universities to receive the 2019 Educational Fundraising Award. This was the first time 麻豆映画传媒 received this national honor, which recognizes overall performance and improvement over a three-year span, as determined by a blind review of data submitted to CASE.

鈥淭he beauty of this awards program is that we look at the data not knowing what institution is being represented. In showcasing these best-of-the-best programs, CASE helps its members identify institutions doing smart and innovative work from which everyone can learn,鈥 says Sue Kubik, an educational fundraiser who led the judging panel this year.

The IGNITE Campaign had three main priorities:

1) student success, which includes scholarships, fellowships and academic and athletic programmatic support;

2) academic excellence, which focuses on faculty through endowed chairs and professorships;

3) growth and opportunity, such as 麻豆映画传媒 Downtown and other projects.

鈥淥ur donors know that when they make a strategic philanthropic investment in 麻豆映画传媒, the resources they entrust to us are being put to the best and highest possible use to help our students, faculty and staff succeed,鈥 Morsberger says. 鈥淎s a major economic driver in Central Florida and a producer of the exceptional human talent needed to succeed in today鈥檚 competitive business environment, we wouldn鈥檛 have it any other way.鈥

Michael Morsberger, CEO of the 麻豆映画传媒 Foundation, gave updates on the university鈥檚 fundraising efforts and thanked all of those who have invested in the future of 麻豆映画传媒. The Millican Society members were recognized for the $78 million in planned gift commitments to 麻豆映画传媒 during the IGNITE Campaign, the multi-year fundraising effort to help support the university.

After the reception, guests attended a performance of the National Young Composers Challenge Composium, made possible by Millican Society member Stephen Goldman, and the Stephen H. Goldman Charitable Foundation.

What You Need to Know About 2019鈥檚 麻豆映画传媒 Day of Giving https://dayofgiving.ucf.edu/ Wed, 27 Mar 2019 01:29:28 +0000 /news/?p=95634 Support what you love about 麻豆映画传媒 on Thursday, March 28, as part of this year鈥檚 Day of Giving.

]]>
On Thursday, March 28, 麻豆映画传媒聽Day of Giving聽will rally together faculty, staff, alumni, parents, students and friends who all love and believe in 麻豆映画传媒.

Members of the 麻豆映画传媒 community are encouraged to support what they love about the university by making a gift to any fund of their choice. And with 麻豆映画传媒’s commitment to excellence in everything from the arts to science to research to athletics to its students, there really is a fund for almost anything.

During last聽year鈥檚 first-ever , the community surpassed 麻豆映画传媒鈥檚 24-hour goal of 1,000 donors just after lunch. So the Knights have upped the ante this year and set the bar at 3,000 donors.

Giving a gift on this day unlocks thousands of dollars in extra support for 麻豆映画传媒 鈥 culminating in an extra $60,000 toward the total raised if 麻豆映画传媒 reaches its goal. Every donor is essential in helping make this happen.

Giving a gift on Thursday is laying the groundwork now for the next big breakthrough in research, for the next star student-athlete to break records, for the next generation of trailblazers to say they were built by 麻豆映画传媒.

So support what you love by making your contribution. If you feel like sharing the love on social media after you make a gift, include #GiveTo麻豆映画传媒 in your post.

Saturday, March 23, marks the beginning of the final 100 days of the IGNITE Campaign, a sustained eight-year effort to secure $500 million in private support to advance 麻豆映画传媒. Since the campaign began on July 1, 2011, more than 103,000 donors have combined to make nearly 400,000 separate gifts, ranging from $5 to eight figures.

As of Dec. 31, 2018, total gifts and commitments stood at approximately $479.5 million, or 96 percent of the goal amount.

鈥淏eing so close to the campaign goal, the question isn鈥檛 鈥榃ill we reach it,鈥 but rather, 鈥楤y how much,鈥欌 says Mike Morsberger, vice president for 麻豆映画传媒 Advancement and CEO of the 麻豆映画传媒 Foundation, the nonprofit organization that accepts gifts to 麻豆映画传媒. 鈥淚t is gratifying to see that our donors 鈥 many of them 麻豆映画传媒 faculty and staff 鈥 place their trust and confidence in the work we do at 麻豆映画传媒 to improve lives and livelihoods. It is my hope that before June 30, more people will make a gift to join in this historic effort.鈥

鈥淚t is gratifying to see that our donors 鈥 many of them 麻豆映画传媒 faculty and staff 鈥 place their trust and confidence in the work we do at 麻豆映画传媒 to improve lives and livelihoods.” 鈥斅燤ike Morsberger, vice president for 麻豆映画传媒 Advancement and CEO of the 麻豆映画传媒 Foundation

Morsberger adds the campaign grand total will be unveiled in October during 麻豆映画传媒鈥檚 homecoming.

Donors to the campaign have chosen to support a wide range of priorities across the university, including student scholarships, endowed faculty positions, innovative programming, athletics excellence and new initiatives like 麻豆映画传媒 Downtown and the Academic Health Sciences Center at Lake Nona. Over the past three years, the 麻豆映画传媒 Foundation has forwarded more than $75 million to the university for use in those areas and others.

The most ambitious fundraising initiative in 麻豆映画传媒 history, IGNITE promises to fundamentally transform the future of the university by providing the margin of excellence that is so vital in public higher education. Alumni, friends, faculty, staff, students and partners can add their names to those who have already contributed on 麻豆映画传媒鈥檚 annual Day of Giving, March 28.

5 Things You Need to Know About Giving Tuesday at 麻豆映画传媒 /news/five-things-knights-need-know-giving-tuesday-ucf/ Fri, 23 Nov 2018 18:29:24 +0000 /news/?p=92342 Every gift matters, so join the movement to help make a lasting impact at the university.

]]>
Falling on聽the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday puts its own philanthropic spin on days like Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.

On Nov. 27, people all over the world will celebrate generosity by giving their time, talent and treasure.聽We encourage聽our聽Knights to consider 麻豆映画传媒 when participating in Giving Tuesday this year.

In fact, here are five things Knights should know about聽:
1. Giving Tuesday is on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
But you can聽#GiveTo麻豆映画传媒聽as early as today by visiting ucffoundation.org/givingtuesday.
2. Last year, 700 donors raised $71,000 to support programs at the university on Giving Tuesday.
From the 麻豆映画传媒 Football Excellence fund to gifts that enabled the Knights Pantry to provide meals for students,聽each and every dollar donated has a lasting impact on Knights.

3. This year鈥檚 goal is to surpass last year鈥檚 success, and it will take all of us working together to make it happen.
Every gift matters. Whether it鈥檚 $5, $10 or $50, it makes a collective impact.
4. If you have a passion, we can find a fund at 麻豆映画传媒 that deserves your support.
If you can鈥檛 decide where to donate,聽consider making a gift to 麻豆映画传媒鈥檚 Area of Greatest Need.聽By doing so, the university can direct your gift to a program or department that needs support, and therefore will offer the greatest impact.
5. All giving matters 鈥 whether it鈥檚 a donation, your time or talent.
Here are some other ways to show your support:

  • Volunteer with a聽local alumni group
  • Become a聽
  • Cheer loud and proud at聽the next 麻豆映画传媒 sporting event
  • Hire a Knight

Most importantly, share your story. Tell everyone what it means to be a Knight and why you love 麻豆映画传媒. Together, we can power the future of this great university.

Nursing Students Reignite Give a Bear Campaign /news/nursing-students-reignite-give-bear-campaign/ Mon, 05 Nov 2018 14:13:54 +0000 /news/?p=91705 This heartwarming fundraiser seeks donors to sponsor bears for children in Central Florida-area hospitals, and proceeds will support scholarships, research and mission trips for the College of Nursing.

With the help of alumni and the community, students from the 麻豆映画传媒聽College of Nursing聽are looking to brighten up the holiday season for local hospitalized children in the form of a cuddly panda bear.

In its second and final year, the聽鈥淕ive Thanks, Give a Bear鈥澛爁undraiser enables the public to sponsor one 鈥 or an entire unit 鈥 of limited-edition bears wearing 麻豆映画传媒 nursing scrubs to be delivered the week following Thanksgiving to sick kids at Central Florida-area hospitals.

Sponsoring a bear starts at $50.

“These cute little bears will make a major impact for the children they comfort and ultimately, for the community by supporting future nurses and innovative research.鈥 Mary Lou Sole, dean of 麻豆映画传媒 College of Nursing

All funds raised from the campaign help fund priority areas within the College of Nursing, including student scholarships, faculty research and medical mission trips. In 2017, the 鈥淕ive a Bear, Warm a Heart鈥 campaign distributed 225 bears to children during the week of Valentine鈥檚 Day and raised nearly $15,000.

鈥淭his heartwarming effort is one of the many ways our students are touching lives and making a difference in the local Central Florida community,鈥 says Mary Lou Sole, dean of the 麻豆映画传媒 College of Nursing. 鈥淚t is exciting to expand the program this year to more regional hospitals, reaching more communities where our Knight Nurses live and provide care. These cute little bears will make a major impact for the children they comfort and ultimately, for the community by supporting future nurses and innovative research.鈥

Banner fundraising year brings 麻豆映画传媒鈥檚 IGNITE campaign total to $400 million /news/ignite-400-million/ Mon, 23 Jul 2018 17:00:37 +0000 /news/?p=88964 Generous support for scholarships and faculty paired with enthusiasm for Knights鈥 performance on the field pushed 麻豆映画传媒 Foundation to its best fundraising year since 2011.

]]>
The 麻豆映画传媒 received an impressive $81 million in charitable gifts and commitments for the 2018 fiscal year, which ended June 30, thanks to the generosity of 34,317 donors. Their gifts propelled IGNITE: The Campaign for 麻豆映画传媒 past the $400 million mark on its way to the $500 million goal by June 2019. The 2018 fiscal year fundraising total represents a 30 percent increase over the prior year, making it the best year since IGNITE fundraising started in 2011.

鈥淎chieving the $400 million milestone puts us right where we want to be headed into the final year of this historic effort,鈥 says IGNITE Campaign Chair Rick Walsh 鈥77 鈥83MS HC鈥14. 鈥淭hese numbers are proof that the momentum we feel is real.鈥

“These numbers are proof that the momentum we feel is real.”

Walsh emphasizes that donor generosity through the IGNITE campaign has tremendous long-and short-term impacts for the university and its students, and also for Central Florida and beyond.

鈥淥ur students, faculty and community are counting on us,鈥 Walsh says. 鈥淲e鈥檙e funding scholarships for students who can鈥檛 otherwise afford a college education, giving faculty the resources to conduct groundbreaking research and cure devastating diseases, and enriching lives through the arts with programs like the Shakespeare Theater and W麻豆映画传媒.鈥

Among the many other endeavors that inspired this record year of philanthropy were the 麻豆映画传媒 Restores PTSD Clinic, 麻豆映画传媒鈥檚 Marine Turtle Research Group, the Knights Helping Knights food pantry, the 麻豆映画传媒 Downtown campus and the John C. Hitt Initiative for Faculty Excellence. Donors also committed $7 million to create five new endowed faculty positions.

鈥淔or public institutions, philanthropy is the margin of success,鈥 麻豆映画传媒 President Dale Whittaker says. 鈥淲hen we do something exceptional, it鈥檚 often because we have friends that believe in us. So the role of philanthropy is more and more critical as we continue to make sure we are carefully stewarding the taxpayers鈥 money and keeping tuition affordable.鈥

Among the generous donors that helped make 2018 the most successful year of the IGNITE campaign were:

  • Jim Rosengren 鈥81 and his wife, Julia, who supported athletics and initiatives in the College of Science and the College of Arts and Humanities
  • The Helios Education Foundation, which invested in 麻豆映画传媒鈥檚 support of educational efforts in Orlando鈥檚 Parramore neighborhood
  • FAIRWINDS Credit Union, which donated to the renovation of the John C. Hitt Library in the 麻豆映画传媒聽贵础滨搁奥滨狈顿厂听Alumni Center and endowed a professorship
  • Walt Disney World Resorts, which contributed to the Rosen College of Hospitality Management
  • 鈥淔or public institutions, philanthropy is the margin of success. When we do something exceptional, it鈥檚 often because we have friends that believe in us.”

The >Knights鈥 thrilling undefeated football season kindled additional enthusiasm among donors, who collectively gave nearly $16 million to 麻豆映画传媒 Athletics. Most of those donations will be used to enhance facilities and go toward the Football Excellence Fund.

Also noteworthy is a 30 percent jump in membership in the Charles Millican Legacy Society, a group of donors who have taken the extraordinary step of leaving a lasting gift in their wills and estate plans. Collectively, the 31 new members represent almost $7 million in giving.

In March 2018, the Foundation held its first 麻豆映画传媒 Day of Giving, a single-day digital effort during which students, alumni and parents support the school financially. The Day of Giving generated $157,000 and attracted a total of 1,951 donors in a single day, with approximately 350 making first-time gifts.

The IGNITE campaign is focused on raising philanthropic support for the following three areas:

  • Student success, including scholarships, study abroad and career readiness
  • Academic excellence, including efforts to recruit and retain top faculty members
  • Special growth and opportunity projects such as 麻豆映画传媒 Downtown, the Academic Health Sciences Center at Lake Nona and innovations in environmental sustainability
  • As of June 30, nearly 100,000 麻豆映画传媒 alumni, friends and partners have given to the IGNITE campaign.

Hitt by donating $250,000 to fund scholarships for first-generation students and presenting him with its highest honor, the 2018 James A. Hinson Leadership Award, which is named after Jim Hinson who was the former president, CEO and chairman of the Dr. Phillips Charities. The award and charitable gift were given at a May 9 retirement celebration in Orlando.

鈥淎 visionary leader, Jim Hinson took our organization from a successful for-profit family business to one of the region鈥檚 most generous and important charitable organizations,鈥 said Dr. Phillips Charities president Ken Robinson. 鈥淒r. Hitt鈥檚 vision and leadership remind us of Jim鈥檚 leadership.鈥

Of the $250,000 grant, $200,000 will help first-generation students, with priority given to Central Florida residents attending the new campus, 麻豆映画传媒 Downtown. The remaining $50,000 will support the Martha Hitt First Generation Endowment Fund, which provides scholarships for students who are the first in their families to attend college. Through a special matching-grant program, the State of Florida will contribute additional funds, bringing the total contribution to $600,000.

鈥淒r. Phillips Charities is helping to shape the landscape of our downtown educational ecosystem,鈥 said Mike Morsberger, vice president for advancement and CEO of the 麻豆映画传媒 Foundation. 鈥淲e are grateful for this long-standing partnership and the tremendous impact it continues to have on our students and our community.鈥

Dr. Phillips Charities has donated to 麻豆映画传媒 every year since the university held its first classes in 1968. During Dr. Hitt鈥檚 26-year tenure, Dr. Phillips Charities has invested more than $12 million in 麻豆映画传媒 and has provided a significant boost to the development of 麻豆映画传媒 Downtown. In 2016, Dr. Phillips Charities committed $7 million toward construction of the Dr. Phillips Academic Commons, the first academic building at the campus.

The $250,000 grant moves 麻豆映画传媒 closer to the $500 million goal of , a multiyear fundraising effort set to wrap up in 2019. Donors have already given more than $385 million to the campaign to support three priorities: student success, academic excellence, and growth and opportunity.

The James A. Hinson Leadership Award, now in its third year, recognizes an extraordinary Central Florida leader or organization that exemplifies the Dr. Phillips motto: 鈥淗elping others help themselves.鈥 Orlando Health received the inaugural award in 2016. In 2017, Edgewood Children鈥檚 Ranch became the second recipient.

Fueling the Passion to Heal Pediatric Patients /news/fueling-the-passion-to-heal-pediatric-patients/ Wed, 25 Apr 2018 21:24:48 +0000 /news/?p=82284 麻豆映画传媒 seniors named inaugural recipients of the new Alfred I. duPont Endowed Nursing Scholarship

    ]]>
Senior Rebecca Bruce of Deland knows that she can ease the pain of sick children and their families one bedside at a time. Her classmate, Caitlin Cox of Tavernier, dreams of lessening the struggles of pediatric patients. As the first recipients of the newly established Alfred I. duPont Endowed Nursing Scholarship, both students are much closer to achieving their goals in pediatric nursing.

With a nursing shortage of more than 1.2 million in the United States, Bruce and Cox are preparing for crucial roles in our health care system. And with the assistance of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust, they will do so without the crushing burden of student loans or the need to compromise their studies with part-time work.

鈥淚 believe in the alleviation of human suffering through the means of compassion and empathy that nursing has to offer,鈥 Cox said. 鈥淩eceiving this scholarship will reduce the current stress of juggling work so I can focus on my studies to provide the best care for my future patients.鈥

Bruce also recognizes the freedom provided by duPont鈥檚 generosity.

鈥淔inancing my dream of becoming a nurse is becoming harder and harder each semester, as I have to take out more and more loans. I want to someday help the pediatric population and their families through some of the hardest times of their lives, but I can鈥檛 do that if I don鈥檛 graduate this program due to financial stress,鈥 Bruce explained.

Dean of the College of Nursing, Mary Lou Sole, recognizes the necessity of scholarships that empower students and allow them to focus on their studies. 鈥淢any nursing students are not able to work during the program due to the rigorous curriculum, so is critical and helps us recruit the best and brightest students.鈥

The Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust is one of America鈥檚 most generous supporters of pediatric health care. Since 1935, they have distributed more than $2.7 billion to its primary beneficiary, The Nemours Foundation, for the care and treatment of children primarily in Delaware and Florida. It has helped hundreds of thousands of sick children find health and new hope for the future, regardless of ability to pay.

With 96 percent of 麻豆映画传媒’s nursing graduates passing the licensing exam on the first attempt, 麻豆映画传媒 ranks among the top four percent of nursing programs nationwide. Generous support from donors at every level has helped make this success possible.

The gift from the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust supports IGNITE: The Campaign for 麻豆映画传媒, which seeks to inspire $500 million in philanthropic support from alumni, friends and partners to drive transformational change. The campaign has currently stands at $366 million and is set to run until June of 2019.
