{"id":117322,"date":"2021-01-21T15:28:19","date_gmt":"2021-01-21T20:28:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=117322"},"modified":"2021-03-03T17:58:34","modified_gmt":"2021-03-03T22:58:34","slug":"ucf-committed-to-building-on-athletics-momentum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-committed-to-building-on-athletics-momentum\/","title":{"rendered":"Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Committed to Building on Athletics\u2019 Momentum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following five years of record-breaking success in the classroom, in competition and in fundraising at Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½, Vice President and Director of Athletics Danny White has accepted a similar position at the University of Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p>Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ will immediately begin a national search for a new vice president and director of athletics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will personally miss working closely with Danny,&#8221;\u00a0says President Alex N. Cartwright. \u201cDanny will leave Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ with incredible momentum and a strong foundation for success, including a culture of innovation and winning with integrity and strengthening Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\u2019s national reputation well beyond the sports world. I am committed to working with all of you to build on our momentum to achieve sustained excellence in competition, in the classroom and beyond.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI am certain that we will attract premier candidates who are eager to work alongside our talented coaches and athletics staff and who share our commitment to our student-athletes\u2019 success in the classroom and preparing them well for careers after they graduate.\u201d \u2014 President Alexander N. Cartwright<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI am certain that we will attract premier candidates who are eager to work alongside our talented coaches and athletics staff and who share our commitment to our student-athletes\u2019 success in the classroom and preparing them well for careers after they graduate. And I know they will also be excited about joining our fans in Knight Nation, just as I was when I became president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\u2019s accomplishments during the past five years:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\u2019s student-athletes have earned an overall GPA of at least 3.2 for eight consecutive semesters and at least 3.0 for 26 consecutive semesters. A<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-places-record-302-on-aac-all-academic-team\/\"> record 302 student-athletes from Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½<\/a> were selected to the 2019-20 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Every Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ team competing in head-to-head sports posted a winning record the past three seasons. We are the only program in the country to accomplish that feat. Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\u2019s football team won a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/pegasus\/knights-kings-2017-national-championship-season\/\">national championship<\/a> and played in two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-fiesta-recap\/\">New Year\u2019s Six bowls<\/a>. The men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball teams earned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-history-ncaa-tournament\/\">NCAA tournament bids in 2019<\/a>, and every team has been ranked in the top 25 at some point during the past five years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Athletics raised more than $35.5 million in gift commitments and $17.4 million in cash gifts during the 2019-20 year. Both numbers were records and, more importantly, a testament to the generosity of Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ donors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>White said that when he was hired at Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ in November 2015, \u201cour goal was to become one of the nation\u2019s premier destinations\u2019 for coaches and student-athletes. I also had a goal to excite our student body, staff and faculty, alumni and the Central Florida community. With the tremendous support of our student-athletes, coaches, staff, donors, students and all of Knight Nation, we certainly accomplished those goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White added that under President Cartwright\u2019s leadership, \u201cthe future is very bright at Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½. It was extremely difficult to tell Alex that I was leaving as he is a tremendous leader and friend. Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ is definitely in great hands, and I look forward to watching the continued success of this phenomenal university.
