{"id":120122,"date":"2021-05-28T12:35:36","date_gmt":"2021-05-28T16:35:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=120122"},"modified":"2025-06-20T15:35:37","modified_gmt":"2025-06-20T19:35:37","slug":"ucf-recreation-and-wellness-center-expands-services-for-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-recreation-and-wellness-center-expands-services-for-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Recreation and Wellness Center Expands Services for Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Recreation and Wellness Center and all its facilities are returning to normal operations for the first time in more than a year. The RWC is planning to expand its hours of operations and in-person offerings by the start of Summer B on June 28 and expects to have a robust schedule by the start of the fall semester pending the ability to hire and train enough staff, particularly in roles that require higher-level certifications.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, RWC staff lifted capacity limits associated with COVID-19 guidelines, dropped the requirement for students to book time slots or reservations, as well the following enhancements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reconfigured the fitness floors to bring more equipment back online for students<\/li>\n<li>Reopened indoor spaces for open recreation play (basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Offering faculty, staff, alumni and Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ affiliate memberships and non-enrolled student memberships<\/li>\n<li>Reintroduced guest passes for friends and family of enrolled students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Starting June 1, the RWC staff will discontinue the 2-hour midday break for enhanced cleaning. RWC staff will continue to ensure the facility meets the highest standards of cleanliness throughout the day. The new hours will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rwc.sdes.ucf.edu\/\">RWC<\/a>:\n<ul>\n<li>Monday \u2013 Friday: 7 a.m. \u2013\u2013 11 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. \u2013\u2013 10 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>RWC @ Knights Plaza\n<ul>\n<li>Daily: Noon \u2013\u2013 9 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rwc.sdes.ucf.edu\/rwc-downtown\/\">RWC @ Downtown<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Monday \u2013 Thursday: 10 a.m. \u2013\u2013 10 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>Friday: Noon \u2013\u2013 6 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>Saturday \u2013 Sunday: 3 p.m. \u2013\u2013 9 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The RWC will be expanding hours by the start of Summer B on June 28 as the department hires and trains new staff to better serve its patrons. Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/rwc.sdes.ucf.edu\/facilities\/leisure-pool\/\">rec.ucf.edu<\/a>\u00a0or download the RWC To Go mobile to check on updates to our hours of operation.<\/p>\n<p>Students will also see return to see the return of indoor group exercise classes in studios and upcoming team sports tournaments. As we return to more programming, RWC is hiring intramural sports officials and certified lifeguards.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Students looking for <a href=\"https:\/\/rwc.sdes.ucf.edu\/employment\/\">summer employment at the RWC can apply online<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For a limited time, the RWC is waiving the certification fee for students to certify, train, and hire new lifeguards. The RWC will hold a two-day class on consecutive Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 12 and June 19. Students looking for <a href=\"https:\/\/rwc.sdes.ucf.edu\/employment\/\">summer employment at the RWC can apply online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Per\u00a0Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ guidelines\u00a0face coverings are no longer required, but RWC staff continue strongly encourage the use of masks and physical distancing indoors where appropriate and to observe\u00a0CDC guidelines on our campuses and everywhere you go.\u00a0For the RWC to continue to expand to more robust programming we strongly encourage all Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ students to get fully vaccinated as soon as they can.
