An award-winning novelist who was named one of Time magazine\u2019s \u201cPerson to Watch\u201d will be speaking at Â鶹ӳ»´«Ã½ on Tuesday, April 5.<\/p>\n
Manil Suri will speak about the challenge of capturing the essence of his homeland in his novels.<\/p>\n
\u201cCapturing India\u201d will begin at 3 p.m. in the Key West Ballroom of the Student Union. The event, organized by the Â鶹ӳ»´«Ã½ Global Perspectives Office, is part of the 2010-2011 \u201cIndia Speaker Series.\u201d It is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
For Suri, a native of Mumbai, his novels represent an opportunity to showcase India\u2019s complex and multilayered society.<\/p>\n
His first novel, \u201cThe Death of Vishnu,\u201d won the 2002 Barnes and Noble Discover Prize and was a finalist for the 2002 Pen-Faulkner Award. His second novel, \u201cThe Age of Shiva,\u201d was released in 2008 in the United States, the U.K. and India.<\/p>\n
He was named by Time magazine as a \u201cPerson to Watch\u201d in 2000 and received a Guggenheim Fellowship for fiction in 2004. Suri\u2019s fiction has been translated into 24 languages.<\/p>\n
