{"id":44231,"date":"2012-12-12T09:25:57","date_gmt":"2012-12-12T14:25:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=44231"},"modified":"2020-09-24T09:27:39","modified_gmt":"2020-09-24T13:27:39","slug":"ucf-to-hold-commencement-ceremonies-dec-14-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-to-hold-commencement-ceremonies-dec-14-15\/","title":{"rendered":"Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ to Hold Commencement Ceremonies Dec. 14-15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 4,700 students are expected to graduate from the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ on Friday, Dec. 14, and Saturday, Dec. 15, during three commencement ceremonies that will be held at the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Arena.<\/p>\n<p>Friday\u2019s 9 a.m. ceremony will be for anticipated graduates from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/business-administration\/\">College of Business Administration<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/engineering-computer-science\/\">College of Engineering &amp; Computer Science<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/medicine\/\">College of Medicine<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/optics-photonics\/\">College of Optics and Photonics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A 2:30 p.m. Friday ceremony will be held for anticipated graduates from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/arts-humanities\/\">College of Arts &amp; Humanities<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/graduate-studies\/\">College of Graduate Studies<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/sciences\/\">College of Sciences<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/undergraduate-studies\/\">College of Undergraduate Studies<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/nursing\/\">College of Nursing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s 9 a.m. ceremony will be held for anticipated graduates from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/community-innovation-education\/\">College of Education<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/health-professions-sciences\/\">College of Health &amp; Public Affairs<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/college\/rosen-college-hospitality-management\/\">Rosen College of Hospitality Management<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Doors to the Arena will open about 90 minutes before each ceremony, which are expected to last about two hours. Graduates will begin processing about 20 minutes before each ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The speaker for the Friday morning ceremony will be Dean Cannon, former State Rep. and Speaker of the House. As the former representative for House District 35, which includes Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\u2019s main campus, he championed the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ College of Medicine and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/modeling-simulation\/\">Central Florida\u2019s modeling and simulation industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Valencia College President Sanford C. Shugart will be the guest speaker for the Friday afternoon ceremony. Shugart previously served as president of North Harris College in Houston and as vice president and chief academic officer of the North Carolina Community College System.<\/p>\n<p>During the ceremony, Shugart will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree for his work with Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ and area state colleges on the college access program DirectConnect to Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ and for his contributions to the community.<\/p>\n<p>Barbara Jenkins, the superintendent for Orange County Public Schools, will speak at Saturday\u2019s ceremony. Jenkins, the superintendent of the 11th largest school district in the nation, earned three degrees from Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\u2019s College of Education before becoming a classroom teacher and principal.<\/p>\n<p>Those expected to walk across the stage this weekend include 3,955 students who filed intents to receive bachelor\u2019s degrees, 734 for master\u2019s degrees, 3 for an education specialist degree, and 89 for doctoral degrees.<\/p>\n<p>With this week\u2019s expected graduations, Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ will have awarded 239,565 degrees since classes began in 1968.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are required for guests to attend the ceremonies and are available from graduates.
