Richard I. Zraick, Ph.D.,\u00a0is the newly appointed\u00a0professor and chair in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Health and Public Affairs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Zraick\u00a0is a nationally recognized expert in the assessment and treatment of voice disorders.\u00a0His textbook, The Voice and Voice Therapy<\/em> (now in its 9th edition), is the leading textbook in its area. He is recognized nationally as a leader in developing innovative clinical skills training methods, particularly those involving patient simulation<\/a>. He has a particular interest in helping clinicians meet the needs of patients with limited health literacy.<\/p>\n

Zraick\u00a0is also a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, one of the highest honors bestowed by the organization.<\/p>\n

Prior to\u00a0joining the faculty earlier this month, Zraick was a professor of speech-language pathology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, where he held appointments in the Departments of Audiology and Speech Pathology, Otolaryngology \u2013 Head and Neck Surgery, and Geriatrics.\u00a0During his 17 years at UAMS, he was the recipient of multiple faculty excellence awards for teaching and research.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Zraick brings an amazing set of skills to his new role as chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders,\u201d said college Dean Michael Frumkin.\u00a0\u201cAs a recognized leader in the field, his vision for the future direction of the profession will help shape the department\u2019s goals in the coming years \u2014\u00a0increasing its visibility throughout the profession.\u00a0And as a distinguished scholar, he will lead the department in enhancing its already rich research capacity.\u00a0We are indeed fortunate that he is now a member of COHPA\u2019s leadership team.\u201d<\/p>\n
