Âé¶¹Ó³»´«Ã½’s Center for Community Schools and Child Welfare Innovation\u00a0recently\u00a0honored\u00a0Sen. David Simmons as a champion of community schools\u00a0for the state of Florida.<\/p>\n
Leaders from the center and\u00a0College of Health and Public Affairs recognized Simmons at\u00a0the Sept. 25 board meeting\u00a0of the\u00a0Children’s Home Society of Florida in Orlando. CHSF and Âé¶¹Ó³»´«Ã½\u00a0partnered to help\u00a0establish Evans High School in\u00a0Pine Hills\u00a0as the first community school of its kind the state.<\/p>\n
Center Director David Bundy, former president of\u00a0CHSF,\u00a0thanked Simmons for his\u00a0support of proposals in 2014 and 2015\u00a0to establish the center and award the state’s\u00a0first\u00a0community-school planning grants. The Legislature\u00a0funded\u00a0both proposals<\/a>.<\/p>\n
