{"id":68932,"date":"2015-10-26T15:23:23","date_gmt":"2015-10-26T19:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=68932"},"modified":"2022-11-15T18:59:47","modified_gmt":"2022-11-15T23:59:47","slug":"ucf-alumni-association-presents-2015-distinguished-student-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-alumni-association-presents-2015-distinguished-student-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Alumni Association Presents 2015 Distinguished Student Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Alumni Association honored Yudeysis Cores with\u00a0the\u00a02015 Distinguished Student Award at its\u00a0annual Homecoming Black &amp; Gold Gala on Oct. 22.<\/p>\n<p>Cores\u00a0has distinguished herself as an outstanding student and member of the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ community through diligence, compassion and dedication. Her outstanding credentials reflect superior achievement in academics, co-curricular activities, community involvement and upholding the tenants of the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Creed.<\/p>\n<p>Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in mathematics education in the College of Education and Human Performance, Cores\u00a0is a Gates Millennium Scholar, and has served\u00a0on the Education Student College Council and as a judge for the Choices Learning Science Fair. She also was\u00a0recently selected to serve on the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ President\u2019s Leadership Council, for which she is excited to serve as a student ambassador and continue to grow as a young professional.<\/p>\n<p>In spring 2013, she conducted an independent research project on how society has created a negative image of the teaching profession, and subsequently presented her work at the Knights Wrights Showcase, before being published in the 2014 <em>Stylus Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>After graduation, she would like to teach abroad for a semester to develop her craft as a future teacher and learn about different educational systems across the world. Her dream is to attend Columbia or Vanderbilt University to complete a degree in education policy, and work for a state department of education. She also would\u00a0like to teach mathematics in a Title I middle school, where she hopes to create positive change with her passion and dedication for teaching.<\/p>\n<p>Cores\u00a0is motivated and enjoys being able to provide the best experience possible for students in her college who are preparing for what she calls \u201cthe most beautiful profession.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One day, she hopes to create a nonprofit organization to help build schools in underprivileged countries.
