This semester\u2019s testing is timed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/knightshare\">KNIGHTSHARE<\/a>, an annual week of events and training designed to help the community to prepare for and respond to emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>During an emergency, the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ website, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/\">www.ucf.edu<\/a>, is the best place to find the latest updates.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency functions connected with the <strong>university\u2019s main<\/strong> <strong>website<\/strong> will be tested from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday. For most of that time, the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ home page will remain active and fully functional with an alert bar at the top of the page. All messages on the alert bar will be marked as tests.<\/p>\n<p>A portion of the website test will involve replacing the regular home page with an entirely text-only home page that may be used during some emergencies. To accommodate large numbers of visitors, the text-only website does not include links that are typically found on the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ home page. When that text-only page is active, users will not be able to access links typically found on the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ home page. Although other Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ web pages will not be impacted by the test, users may want to bookmark those pages in advance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outdoor sirens<\/strong>, which emit a tone followed by voice instructions, will be tested at noon.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>test emergency text message and e-mail<\/strong> will be sent at about 1 p.m. Messages should be received by all students and staff and faculty members who have updated cell phone information on file through MyÂ鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\u00a0 and who have not opted out of receiving emergency messages.<\/p>\n<p>Updates can be made to text and email preferences through the following steps after signing on to MyÂ鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½.<\/p>\n<li><strong>Students:<\/strong> Click on Student Self Service, then Personal Information and then Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Alert.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Faculty and Staff:<\/strong> Click on Employee Self Service, then Personal Information and then Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Alert.<\/li>\n<p>Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ provides\u00a0many campus personnel who assist with emergency responses with HEARO <strong>emergency radios<\/strong>. Radios, which also are in key campus buildings such as residence halls and the Student Union, will be tested at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>More than 40\u00a0Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ buildings are equipped with <strong>indoor notification systems<\/strong> that emit tones followed by voice instructions during emergencies. Those systems will be tested briefly between 3 and 3:30 p.m. The tests in each building will last no more than a couple of minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WÂ鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½-89.9 FM<\/strong> will conduct a test of its emergency broadcast capabilities at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\">Twitter<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\/\">Facebook<\/a> pages<\/strong>, which serve as additional methods of notification, will be updated with information about the tests.<\/p>\n<p>Visit the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Alert website for more information on the communication system that helps to keep the campus safe and informed during emergencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\u2019s preparations for potential emergency situations include regular tests of communication tools that provide critical information to students, staff and faculty members, and the public.
