{"id":78115,"date":"2017-07-18T20:15:27","date_gmt":"2017-07-19T00:15:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=78115"},"modified":"2024-04-16T16:55:48","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T20:55:48","slug":"ucf-test-emergency-communication-tools-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-test-emergency-communication-tools-thursday\/","title":{"rendered":"Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ to Test Emergency Communication Tools Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½&#8217;s preparations for potential emergency situations include regular tests of the communication tools that provide critical information to students, staff and faculty members, and the public.<\/p>\n<p>Several of those Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Alert communication tools will be tested Thursday, July 20.<\/p>\n<p>In preparation for Thursday\u2019s Alert testing, students and faculty and staff members are encouraged to log in to myÂ鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ and review their Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Alert settings to ensure that contact information (email, cell phone number, and mobile provider) is correct.<\/p>\n<p>The emergency communication functions that will be tested Thursday include:<\/p>\n<p>-Indoor sirens that emit tones followed by voice instructions will be briefly tested in more than 70 buildings starting at 12:15 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>-The Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ website, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\">www.ucf.edu<\/a>, will be tested from 1 to 2 p.m. For most of the testing time, the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ home page will remain active and fully functional with an alert bar at the top of the page. All messages on the alert bar will be marked as tests. A portion of the web site test will involve replacing the regular home page with an entirely text-only home page that may be used during some emergencies. When that text-only page is active, users will not be able to access links typically found on the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ home page. Although other Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ web pages will not be impacted by the test, users may want to bookmark those pages in advance.<\/p>\n<p>-A test emergency text and email will be sent around 1 p.m. All members of the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ community whose Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Alert contact information is up to date and who have not opted out of receiving emergency messages should receive both.<\/p>\n<p>-Outdoor sirens, which emit a tone followed by voice instructions, will be tested at 3 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Alert testing also will include WÂ鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½-89.9 FM and social media.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Alert emergency communication system, visit www.emergency.ucf.edu\/ucfalert.html.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½&#8217;s preparations for potential emergency situations include regular tests of the communication tools that provide critical information to students, staff and faculty members, and the public.
