{"id":78992,"date":"2017-09-27T15:56:42","date_gmt":"2017-09-27T19:56:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=78992"},"modified":"2021-01-08T09:46:54","modified_gmt":"2021-01-08T14:46:54","slug":"ucf-alumnus-partners-theatre-ucf-bring-play-sandy-hook-orlando","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-alumnus-partners-theatre-ucf-bring-play-sandy-hook-orlando\/","title":{"rendered":"Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Alumnus Partners with Theatre Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ to Bring Play About Sandy Hook to Orlando"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ will bring <em>26 Pebbles <\/em>\u2013 a play written by BFA musical theatre alumnus Eric Ulloa \u2013 to the Orlando Repertory Theatre on Oct.5-8.<\/p>\n<p>Ulloa\u2019s<em> 26 Pebbles<\/em> was created as a response to the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Connecticut. As a socially active individual, Ulloa felt a need to shine a light on the tragedy that changed the lives of many people in Newtown, CT. He drove to Newtown and conducted interviews with the town\u2019s people, and the play is a composition of their words.<\/p>\n<p>Theatre faculty member Be Boyd is directing the play that consists of Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ graduate and undergraduate students. According to Boyd, the students love working on the show because they want to honor the people who were shaken by the horrific event, and support Ulloa\u2019s commitment to sharing their stories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>26 Pebbles<\/em> is a piece about humanity at its best and worst, but mostly its best,\u201d said Boyd, associate professor of undergraduate acting and BFA acting coordinator. \u201cIt\u2019s an extremely touching, interactive and educational piece about the community\u2019s spirit, their loss and the world\u2019s response to their tragedy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Performances of <em>26 Pebbles <\/em>are at 7 p.m.\u00a0 Oct. 5-7 and at 5 p.m. Oct. 8. The show will be hosted at the Orlando Repertory Theatre, 1001 E. Princeton St. The performances are free but require a ticket.
