It\u2019s the reason Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½, which consisted of a bold idea and a patch of scrub pine just \ufb01ve decades ago, is today the nation\u2019s second-largest public university.<\/p>\n<p>But we aren\u2019t strictly expanding. Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ is emerging as an entirely new category of university. One that de\ufb01nes itself not by who it excludes, but by who it includes. One that de\ufb01es assumptions about what a large university can or can\u2019t do. One that knows scale and excellence can coexist to create maximum impact. And one that is determined \u2014 or, better yet, destined \u2014 to build a brighter tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>But we are not alone in our aspirations and expectations.<\/p>\n<p>As Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ increases its presence on the national stage, we are competing for talent with more prominent institutions, both public and private, that are far better funded.<\/p>\n<p>This is a fact, not a fear. And it fuels the motivation to achieve our biggest dreams. By harnessing the same visionary spirit that sparked Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\u2019s founding more than 50 years ago, we are charging forward with undaunted con\ufb01dence and distinction.<\/p>\n<p>Pushing into new frontiers requires an unprecedented level of philanthropy \u2014 even more extraordinary than the commitment that helped launch Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ in 1963. Back then, 89 community leaders invested $1 million of their own resources to buy land for the new campus. Today, we are setting our sights signi\ufb01cantly higher.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucffoundation.org\/\">IGNITE: The Campaign for the Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½<\/a> is an intense, focused and strategic effort to raise $500 million.<\/p>\n<p>Some of you may recall our \ufb01rst campaign, Central to Our Future, which ran from 1999 to 2006. Thanks to a dollar-for-dollar state match at the time, we raised $366 million primarily for facilities like Bright House Networks Stadium and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/locations\/academic-health-sciences-center\/\">Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So, why now? And how is IGNITE different? As a comprehensive campaign, IGNITE is broader and more ambitious. It seeks to elevate our university with the potential to fundamentally change the future of Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½.<\/p>\n<p>[divider][\/divider]<\/p>\n<p>[blockquote source=&#8221;&#8221; cite=&#8221;&#8221; color=&#8221;#8794a5&#8243; css_class=&#8221;&#8221;]At its heart, this campaign is not about dollars \u2014 it\u2019s about people, the best and the brightest people. And it\u2019s important to understand how these contributions will impact them.\u00a0[\/blockquote]<\/p>\n<p>[divider][\/divider]<\/p>\n<p>The IGNITE Campaign will channel our collective, scalable energies and resources toward <strong>three priorities<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Student Success<\/strong> \u2013 From orientation to graduation, our goal is to prepare students for rewarding and successful lives. This begins with scholarships and other forms of aid to keep Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ affordable and accessible for all.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Academic Excellence<\/strong> \u2013 It is essential that we attract, retain and reward top educators and innovators through endowed professorships and other resources that fuel academic enterprise, reduce Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½\u2019s student-faculty ratio and propel groundbreaking research that will solve tomorrow\u2019s problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Better Future<\/strong> \u2013 Our latest endeavors, Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ Downtown and a new teaching hospital, are the largest in a long history of Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½-led partnerships with public impact, from health care and veterans\u2019 services to coastal conservation.<\/p>\n<p>By challenging ourselves to raise $500 million, we are doing more than securing a prosperous future for the university. But most of all I have hope \u2014 hope for tomorrow, hope for every new day,\u201d said Bruce Chambers, an Iraq War veteran who completed treatment for PTSD at Â鶹ӳ»­´«Ã½ RESTORES, with Deborah
