鈥淲hen somebody is trying to make a nice gesture, it’s generally better not to kick them in the teeth.鈥�
鈥淚t would be nice if somebody would ask a question rather than just make a wild assumption.鈥�

Hitt: 鈥淪o are we.鈥�
鈥淭hat鈥檒l start some tongues wagging.鈥�
鈥淲e鈥檙e going to have information in聽hand. It鈥檚 a radical concept.鈥�
鈥淸That鈥檚] better than a sharp stick聽in the eye.鈥�
鈥淲hile you鈥檙e at it, go tell the tide聽to come in.鈥�
鈥淭here will be a vote to adopt something. The something remains to be worked out.鈥�
鈥淚t鈥檚 a compliment in a way but one we聽could probably do without.鈥�
鈥淗e鈥檚 a smart guy and a good guy, and those are two good things to say about somebody.鈥�
鈥淚f you intend to go, be sure to take聽all the fun with you that you intend to have.鈥�
鈥淲e really need a dose of common sense in this, and I hope it can be injected.”
A vice president: 鈥淲e have Chihuahuas.鈥�
Hitt: 鈥淚 hope you get over that.鈥�
鈥淚 was still trying to negotiate a聽blindfold and a cigarette for you.鈥�
鈥淲e were a Southern family, so if it聽didn鈥檛 move real fast, it got fried.鈥�
鈥淩emember聽the first law聽of academic administration: If it鈥檚 worth doing, it鈥檚 worth delegating.鈥�
A reminder to not be too greedy:聽鈥淧igs get fed. Hogs get slaughtered.鈥�
鈥淚t鈥檚 a good idea except for trying to do it.鈥�

A vice president: 鈥淣ever turn down聽the kindness of the president.鈥�
Hitt: 鈥淭here鈥檚 so little of it.鈥�
鈥淲here are the criteria for leaping over tall buildings?鈥�
鈥淲e need to look at the problem聽and not necessarily a solution that is presenting itself for another problem.鈥�
鈥淎 wish is not a plan.鈥�
